Never Con a Con Man

Many years ago, I was playing golf at a local course where I ran into a real Pool Shark. This was one of those nice days where the air was cool and I was enjoying a nice relaxing round of golf. I could see someone in front of me who was playing rather well in that they were hitting the fairways and knocking it on the green just about every time. Since I was walking and he was riding a cart I knew that I would never catch up to him. Around the 5th hole I noticed he was slowing down a bit and asked me to join him by the 6th tee box. We introduced ourselves and we had one thing in common, we both worked the night shift. I was in IT and he was in the pool halls. I took notice that he started playing poorly by shooting 5 or 6 over on the next three holes. I thought this was odd since he seemed to be playing very well before this. As we made the turn he asked if I wanted to play for money on the back side. Keep in mind, I was just having fun by hitting the driver, shooting at every pin and pounding putts 3 feet past. I said ok and we headed to the 10th tee. He split the fairway perfectly and I took out my three-wood and hit a cut shot. You see, there was only a 40% of me hitting the fairway with a driver but a 90% chance with a three-wood cut shot. I made a 20 foot putt to put him one down. The 11th hole, I hit the cut three-wood again which landed in front of the trap and he put his driver plugged in the same bunker. Now down two, he pressed for another bet and we proceeded to the 12th hole. He wasn't talking so much now and seemed to get a little angry when I pulled out a 2 iron to lay up on the par four. His drive was a little too close to the green and he couldn't get the ball to stop and rolled in the back rough. A little local knowledge allowed me to stay back so I could put a tad bit of spin on the ball which held the green. He was now down three on the first bet and down one on the second. By the time we hit the 16th hole he was down 4 bets and steaming mad. He tossed the $40 at my feet and stormed off the course. Little did he know that I was on the NCAA Collegiate golf team but I suppose that I looked like an easy target. I am sure if we were in a pool hall, I would have lost my shirt.
