A Leaders Job is to Serve Those Below

I started thinking this thought a few weeks ago. What if we took the organization chart and the associated layers, which layer would this company miss the most if it somehow it magically disappeared. I think you would agree that if the bottom layer was removed that the entire organization would cease to exist. I know, this is a very obvious point but sometimes you wonder if folks in leadership positions recognize this. What about the first-line manager? I would argue that the elimination of this level might not stop the organization but the impact would be devastating. From a management perspective, the first-line manager is the most critical component of the business. Now, it gets interesting.
