IBM: Going Strategic with Virtual Reality
Not too long ago, IBM made news by utilizing Second Life for executive conferences. Considering this was the company that once required you to wear white shirts only, this was a major advancement. This is also the company that actually had an executive manual that instructed you to carry dimes with you since Mr. VP high-and-mighty enjoyed spearmint gum. All that being said this is different. Have you looked at the IBM home page?

They are going strategic with virtual worlds and gaming.
“Virtual worlds, real leaders. Online games put the future of business leadership on display”.
“If you want to see what business leadership may look like in three to five years, look at what’s happening in online games.” Byron Reeves, Ph.D.
Here is the main point, one of the most hierarchal organizations in the world transformed itself under Louis Gerstner during the Web 1.0 and it looks like they are moving at the speed of technology in the Web 2.0 world. Can you imagine your organization having gaming on the main intranet or holding meetings in Second Life?
